Our first OB appointment
James and I both thought we would feel this excitement and relief or whatever to 'see' it, but it made us both feel a little less attached to some blob-growth on the screen. Books say our 'baby' is now developing teeth and fingernails and blood is flowing and stuff. That means a lot more to me than looking at a blob, I guess. Maybe we were just expecting too much or something.
Then there was the doctor. She would ask us a question like, "Does any kind of blood disease run in your families?" and I would say no and she would go on for like 15 minutes telling me why they ask that and what it might mean if one did. Like how Celine Dion has one that runs in her family and her cousins had to have a lung removed and blah blah blah. On and on about so much that has NOTHING to do with our pregnancy. I honestly wanted to slap her. Since I'm considering using a midwife instead of MD, I asked about differences between the two and she went on a long tangent about how in their practice the midwifes are all women but some of the doctors are men and about how people say men do blah blah blah and women do blah blah blah but they are all their 'own person' and have thier own opinions of blah blah blah. Then she started in on how in Illinois, where she's from, the new such-n-such politician made midwifery illegal. This was one of the 'only three good things' this whoever politician has done since he was elected and blah blah blah. You get the idea.
I guess after all of that, it was kind of hard to be excited about our blob, which the doctor seemed genuinely disinterested in anyway. Besides, she talked so much about nothing that I felt like I had to wait for her to take a breath before I could ask a question. I was pretty annoyed when we got out of the office, though because I felt like I didn't have time to talk at all, or ask questions, or even concentrate on what it was I wanted to ask.
And the most upsetting part was her take on pregnancy weight gain. She feels because most women have 'plenty of fat supply in reserves' it is not necessary for pregnant women to eat ANY more calories a day than they normally do, as the baby can just pull what it needs from places on their bodies. Based on this psychotic rationale, she only expects that women gain ZERO to NINE pounds for the entire pregnancy! Needless to say, I think this is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard, and she can suck it if she thinks I'm going to use my pregnancy as a diet program to get rid of extra pounds!
I'm sorry this is all so depressing to read, but James and I have only felt deflated, annoyed and maybe even angry since our a
ppointment. Maybe we should have just waited until God wanted us to see the baby before trying to cheat nature and get an early 'sneak peek.' We're also pretty sure at this point that we don't want to know the sex of the baby, either. We'll let God reveal that to us when He wants to.By the way, this isn't our ultrasound picture (I googled it) but it is just as nondescript, so it might as well be. Nice blob, huh?

Dreams
Today I bought my first maternity bottoms. Khaki shorts with a nice stretchy band waist. They feel great. I wore them right out of target. But I did decide that since maternity clothes are so pricey (my cheapie shorts were $19), I'll probably buy them on ebay. It works out well because almost all size medium tops or bottoms fit me or any size 8s.
My tummy has been pretty achy lately and it feels better to recline a little, so I brought a pillow in to work. I'm probably quite a sight: legs propped up on the desk, bed pillow behind my back, and keyboard on my lap. lol. It feels so nice.
Although my tummy is definitely growing, I'm a little concerned that I haven't put on any weight. I actually lost a half a pound in the last week! I don't know why, because I know I'm eating more food and more often. Hopefully I'll get some answers and get my mind put at ease at my appointment next week.

Pregnant!
We don't know much else yet but we're so excited!!
So far, other than feeling pretty sleepy and smelling the world with a hypersensitive sniffer, I don't really feel pregnant. James is the doting husband as usual, and is proud to be in chart of the nursery which he decided will sport cartoon dinosaur motif. lol. He says that's unsex enough, and he's so psyched, so I'm cool with that.
We've talked about baby names for years now, and the winners so far are Isabella & Liam but that could change, or course. We're not even sure if we want to know the sex of the baby yet. We are jumping the gun a bit on this, tho. We don't even really know how far along I am at this point, but we'll find out more at the OB appointment July 29th so that'll be great! YAY!

Giant grasshopper
All this drama happened after James found a giant grasshopper eating my green beans last night. It was so big and nasty, I swear it was like 4 or 5 inches long! Yikes! So he had to kill it with a shovel instead of just step on it. Then he felt bad, like a murderer, so he said a prayed for it. haha, little sweetie. He's what the deceased looked like:

Creepy. So this morning when I found the worms, I blasted them all off with the hose and then pesticided the heck out of the broccoli, brussel sprouts, and green beans. Hope that'll keep 'em at bay.
